Honda Civic recklessly cuts in front of car that was road-hogging right lane

The saying that there are two sides to every story is especially true in most road incidents, as vehicle dashboard cameras can depict a somewhat limited version of what really happened.

Such was the case for footage submitted to Facebook page ROADS.sg on Sunday (Aug 28).

The video starts with the car on the far right lane of the road. A few seconds later, a Honda Civic comes into view and dangerously cuts into the lane in front of the car without ample space in between.

It appears that the Honda Civic also stepped on the brakes several times, as if trying to send a message to the car behind it.

The post caption noted that the Honda Civic driver behaved recklessly.

The video, however, backfired on the car driver with the dashcam instead, who was criticized by netizens for road hogging.

“Cam car driver is that typical Karen that will say ‘What’s wrong? I am driving within the speed limit on expressway lane one even though other lanes are empty,'” commented Facebook user Jeffrey Huang.

Facebook user Song Bo commended the Honda Civic and said, “Just xiam one side to let faster car overtake la. Well done Civic, thank you for educating the cam driver.”

Others noted that it was obvious the Honda was tolerating the cam car’s “nonsense” for a long time prior to the footage.

“Sorry, but I’ve experienced cam car drivers acting victim but actually being the culprit,” added another netizen.

Facebook user Winson Ang pointed out that road hogging was a prevalent issue. “A lot of such SG road hoggers on NSHW (North-South Corridor), driving at a speed limit of 110 kmh when the car behind closes up fast, high beam & horn but decide to play braking game.

“Spare a thought for cars behind when there are only two lanes on highways, put your ego down if you can drive or your car cannot go faster & switch to the slow lane to let others pass.”

According to the Road Traffic Act, “on a three-lane carriageway, you may keep to the central lane when the left-hand lane is occupied by slower moving vehicles. The outer (right-hand) lane is for overtaking only; do not stay in it longer than necessary after overtaking vehicles in the centre lane.” /TISG
