Singapore ― Former actor, and father of actress Chantalle Ng, Huang Yiliang, took to Facebook to livestream for the first time to comment on what his daughter revealed on camera regarding their relationship.

Ms Ng, 25, was a guest recently on Quan Yi Fong’s talk show “Hear U Out,” where she shared her experiences and aspirations as an actress and touched on her relationship with her father.

Ms Ng said that much of her unhappiness as a child stemmed from her father.

“It’s just that sometimes, his temper can be volatile, and I would not know when he would become angry,” she said.

When she was in Primary 5, Ms Ng highlighted a case of abuse.

“Perhaps he was eager to see his daughter excel, and perhaps he received some negative feedback from the tutor about my academic performance at that time, which made him angry. When he arrived at my home, he lost control, and it ended up becoming a police case,” said Ms Ng.

“He caned me. It was rather serious. I was hospitalised for about a week,” she added.

Mr Huang, 60, conducted a Facebook livestream on Sunday evening (Sept 26) to respond to his daughter’s statements.

He mentioned how his daughter refused to see him since the incident.

Mr Huang also revealed that he and his ex-wife Lin Meijiao had agreed he would be the “bad cop” on their parenting approach.

The “tuition centre teacher said that she was very naughty,” said Mr Huang, describing Ms Ng as a teenager.

He noted that he could no longer stay silent after what Ms Ng said during the interview.

Mr Huang had requested for his daughter to stay out of the hearing when he shared his side of the story in court back then.

Since the incident became a police case, Ms Ng had to testify in court.

However, Ms Lin decided to drop the case, as being around Mr Huang stressed and terrified her daughter.

Mr Huang admitted hearing his daughter’s words on the talk show was “heartbreaking.”

He also revealed towards the end of his 30-minute livestream that he had allocated 30 and 20 per cent of his assets to Ms Ng and Ms Lin, respectively, in a will.

He said he wouldn’t change the will’s contents despite his daughter’s statements, noting he wasn’t “as bad” as to how the media portrayed him to be.

Mr Huang added that certain aspects of what Ms Ng aired on camera could affect the verdict for an ongoing court case.

Still, he said he considered Ms Lin a part of his family and thanked her for their daughter.

To date, the video has garnered over 1,800 comments, with 93,000 views. /TISG
