Gelato & Giggles: RASA presents a star-studded international comedy night for the first time

SINGAPORE: Look forward to Wednesday, May 21, when RASA, located in Republic Plaza, will host a pop-up comedy club for Gelato & Giggles. Trading dance music for punchlines, the club will present a star-studded international comedy night for the first time.

Jocelyn Chia, a Singapore-raised, New York-based comedienne, will be the headlining act. Jocelyn Chia went from being an M&A lawyer to a regular at NYC’s legendary Comedy Cellar.

She will appear alongside Kavin Jay, the Malaysian Netflix star known for his politically incorrect charm and international appeal.

Bold and powerful delivery

Singaporean Jacky Ng will host the event. Rising Indonesian comedian Giorgy Gunawan will make a special guest appearance. Comedy Central, CNN, the BBC, MTV, Vice TV, Fox News, and Discovery+ have all featured Jocelyn Chia because of her bold and powerful delivery.

Furthermore, Chia has been profiled by the New York Times, South China Morning Post, and The Independent UK after making global headlines with her viral “Singapore vs. Malaysia” joke.

She currently frequently attends some of the best clubs in New York, such as Stand Up NY, Gotham Comedy Club, and Comedy Cellar. Jocelyn Chia, the first non-musical artist signed to Warner Music Singapore, was named Singapore’s #1 comic by Simibest and Best in Singapore.

Cracking people up

Kavin Jay, the hilarious guy from that Netflix special Everybody Calm Down!, will also be there. He’s been cracking people up in Malaysia for ages. He has this super quick way of telling jokes, and even though he comes across as a bit grumpy on stage, you can’t help but love him.

He’s made people laugh everywhere, from London to Melbourne and even Mumbai! His comedy gets people from all sorts of backgrounds laughing together, and he’s known as one of the funniest and smartest comedians in Southeast Asia.

Ridiculous remarks

Giorgy Gunawan, one of Indonesia’s most wonderfully unpredictable performers, completes the roster with his self-deprecating humour and ridiculous remarks. Giorgy is the evening’s wild card, and his peculiar and erratic demeanour keeps audiences guessing.

Half the joy of his jokes is that they frequently take unexpected turns. Audiences enjoy Giorgy’s brand of mayhem, whether he’s making jokes about his grey T-shirt collection or acting as though he still has no idea what to do with his free hand on stage.

To top it all off, each S$40 ticket comes with a drink and a scoop of gelato, because life is better with a little sugar and a lot of laughter.
