Diners at the Seng Kee Black Chicken Herbal Soup restaurant at Changi Road were perplexed when a pornographic video was played in the foodhouse’s TV set on Sunday, around 10pm.
According to the Chinese daily, the lewd film depicted two gay men dressed only in their underwear getting intimate on a bed. One 12-second-long video that was filmed by a diner shows patrons at the foodhouse gawking at the TV screen as the video plays.
The Chinese daily reports that the proprietors of the restaurant did not immediately notice the film being telecast on the screen. One worker, 68-year-old Mr Chen, told the daily that the restaurant had been busy that night and that he had not noticed what was playing on the TV screen.
It was only when he noticed a diner filming what was happening in the eatery that Mr Chen spotted the explicit scene playing on the TV. Mr Chen quickly turned off the TV set as soon as he saw what was playing.
The restaurant proprietors reportedly believe that a mischievous diner caused the shocking incident to unfold. Pointing out that the TV set is a Smart TV, the proprietors believe that the yet-to-be identified diner telecast the video from his or her mobile device to the Smart TV using the restaurant’s Wi-Fi network.
Restaurant staff told reporters that they have temporarily switched their Wi-Fi network off as they weigh their options on how to deter such mischief in the future: “One is to turn off the smart function of the TV, and not let customers use the mobile phone to control the TV. Another solution is to install a new wireless network for customers to use.”
