A video of a diplomat car going against the traffic along Jalan Bukit Ho Swee as it was on a one-way road has gone viral online.
According to a post by Facebook page SG Road Vigilante – SGRV on June 19, the Audi A8L driver “insisted on driving against the flow of traffic,” despite being “warned and horned at by oncoming motorists.”
The video showed a black vehicle with the plate number S1313CD, the last two letters, CD, standing for “Diplomatic Corps.”
The video was also posted on TikTok by @rachxz3, who witnessed the scene. “Initially, I thought there was an accident cause I heard horning, but this is amazing,” said the netizen.
“In case anyone wants to know, both the driver and passenger were female, Ang Mo,” the original poster noted.
Netizens wondered if these types of vehicles had immunity to road regulations. “Diplomatic car means no need to follow road rules? I’m curious,” said TikTok user Crystal.
Some netizens gave the driver the benefit of the doubt and noted people make mistakes. The “woman was probably just panicking and wondering how and where to turn around,” said TikTok user Charlotte Beckett-he.
Meanwhile, @rachxz said, “But already on the wrong direction yet make a turn into another wrong direction? I don’t think that’s called a mistake anymore. There are signs on the road too,” he added.
Others noted that the driver could have made a U-turn instead of continuing in the wrong direction.
According to TikTok user James Ojisan, the vehicle was an embassy car from the Netherlands. “The number plate consists of the country code given to the Netherlands, but not ambassador because that would be S1301CD,” he added.
“Thought embassy car need to put the flag thingy when in use, if not it is just normal crew or staff driving nia?” wrote a netizen, highlighting that the driver or passenger might not have been on the road on official business.
Still, netizens advised submitting the video as evidence to the authorities to put the driver to task./TISG
