Did you ever regret living in Singapore? Netizens share their experiences

SINGAPORE: Singapore is very well known for top global rankings for safety, as well as having high-quality technology that uplifts the daily lives of the Singaporean community. However, beneath the surface of all the country’s successes, many residents have a lingering question: Have you ever regretted living here? 

On Facebook, a netizen started a very interesting conversation about this subject. In the post, the netizen claimed: “Did you ever regret living in Singapore? And wish to pack your bag and leave for good?” 

With this, many netizens shared their thoughts, opinions, and own experiences. One commented that he/she is grateful to be born and raised in Singapore, and even though the country has its own fair share of setbacks, he/she is still enjoying the country in every way possible. 

“No country is ever perfect. What matters is what you are willing to compromise for your priorities. It’s not necessarily greener on the other side of the fence. To be able to enjoy Singapore much more, you have to get out for a while and come back,” the comment added. 

Another netizen remarked: “Singapore is not a perfect country, but compared to many, we are still in a good place.” 

Similar to this, others strongly believe that Singapore is doing better than other countries, so there is no reason to regret living here. This is the same sentiment as some overseas workers, who wanted to stay in the country for good. 

“I found my purpose here, and I found the safety and security that you can’t find in any other countries,” a netizen claimed. 

Moreover, there are some who stated that leaving Singapore will not totally solve their problems, especially if they are romanticising living elsewhere. 

“Relocating doesn’t eliminate problems; it merely exchanges a familiar set of constraints for an unfamiliar one… You don’t escape problems by leaving Singapore. You just change the category of problems you have to solve. And contrary to what some people imagine, life outside Singapore isn’t some perpetual bargain-priced utopia. You still have to hustle, just with a different set of trade-offs,” a comment declared. 

“Singapore is home. There’s no other place like home,” a comment concluded. 

At the end of the day, some locals or foreigners living in Singapore may have experienced moments of frustration, but for many, the country still offers a different level of safety, stability, and opportunity that may be hard to find elsewhere. Overall, Singapore remains worthy of calling home for many.
