Singapore — After an order of a roast meat dish from a restaurant in the Crystal Jade chain, was delivered, Gilbert Cheah was shocked to find that the dish looked like leftovers.

Mr Cheah, a consultant for luxury markets and a digital TV host, posted a photo on his Facebook page of the dish. The Michelin one-starred chain is now owned by the Paris-based French chain LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy).

“My sister ordered a roasted meat combination dish from Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen today for my Mom,”  he wrote.

“It cost S$29.30, and this is what we received.”

“Crystal Jade Singapore, are you for real?” he asked. “Your standards have dropped even as your prices have risen.”

Commenting on the post, Facebook user Keven Khoo remarked that it looked like leftovers, and Mr Cheah agreed.

“That looks like a flimsy, dried-out offering!” said netizen Keith Power.

When asked if there had been a mistake with the portioning, Mr Cheah’s sister Karen G C Cheah, said it was the second time they’d ordered it and the quantity was the same “Only this time I decided to take a picture and inform Deliveroo,” she said.

“It’s definitely not acceptable, and they have to account for this lack of standards,” said another netizen.

Another Facebook user Vivian Lim recounted her own experience with Crystal Jade when trying to use a voucher.

She said she was told she couldn’t use it on special-priced items; then when she asked if the voucher could be used on something else, she was told “only dine-in”.

“So I made another trip there to use the voucher, and they told me I can’t use (it) as I’ve used a credit card promo. Their voucher is useless!”
