Choa Chu Kang HDB residents escape in the nick of time after blaze erupts in kitchen

SINGAPORE: Two residents living in an HDB flat in Choa Chu Kang escaped after a massive blaze erupted in their kitchen on Friday morning (26 May). While the residents managed to flee in the nick of time, their kitchen was gutted by the raging fire, and the rest of the unit also sustained heat and soot damages.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) has said it was alerted to the fire, which erupted within a fourth-floor unit in Block 803A Keat Hong Close, around 10 am.

Firefighters from Clementi Fire Station and Bukit Batok Fire Station swiftly entered the smoke-filled unit to combat the flames and extinguished the fire with two water jets.

Fortunately, before the SCDF’s arrival, two individuals managed to evacuate the affected unit. As a precautionary measure, the police facilitated the evacuation of approximately 40 residents from neighbouring units to ensure their safety.

SCDF said a paramedic assessed one person from the affected unit for smoke inhalation. However, the individual declined to be transported to the hospital, indicating that they did not require further medical attention.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
