BTS, Blackpink and Seventeen steal the show at MTV Video Music Awards

BTS, Blackpink and Seventeen all took home wins at the 2022 MTV Video Music Awards.

The star-studded event which recognizes the best in the music industry was held on Aug 28 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.

Blackpink won the award for the Best Metaverse Performance for their Collaboration for Love and Lisa won Best K-pop for her solo Lalisa. Lisa beat fellow competitors, BTS, ITZY, Seventeen, Stray Kids and Twice. She became the first solo K-pop star to win that honour at the VMAs.

Blackpink also became the first female K-pop group to perform at the MTV VMAs and the fourth girl group to perform on stage after TLC, the Spice Girls and Fifth Harmony. The famous girl group performed their latest single Pink Venom at the event.

Lisa thanked producer Teddy, YG Entertainment and all Blackpink fans better known as BLINKS.

Seventeen won their first-ever award at the VMAs for ‘Push Performance of the Year’ for their single Rock With You.

Group member Vernon said during the award acceptance speech, “It was a huge honour to be present as the first K-pop artist for the MTV award show, and felt even greater to receive the push performance award.”

Another member Mingyu also said thank you to all their fans.

BTS received the honour of winning the “Group of the Year” award for the fourth consecutive year in a row.

They were also nominated for Best K-pop, Best Choreography, Best Visual Effects and Best Metaverse Performance. In addition to that BTS’ Jungkook was nominated separately in the ‘Song of the Summer’ category for Left and Right, which was a collaboration with US singer-songwriter Charlie Puth.

The MTV VMAs are one of the four biggest US music award ceremonies together with the Billboard Music Awards, Grammy Awards and the American Music Awards.
