A 79-year-old woman was seen in a video with her wheelchair falling backwards inside a bus.

The 11-second clip, shared by Ms Poh Eng Seah on the COMPLAINT SINGAPORE Facebook page on Aug 31, shows Ms Poh’s mother’s wheelchair tipping back slowly and then falling on the floor of the vehicle, leaving the elderly woman with her legs in the air.

A man can be seen rushing to aid her as soon as she fell.

“It happened when my  mum was on the way to day care centre, St Andrew Tampines this morning around 9.30am. Till now she is still at A&E.

Driver and assistant forgot to secure her wheelchair at the track,” wrote Ms Poh.

The wheelchair, which was locked, had not been tethered safely inside the van, which would have made the journey incident-free for her mother.

She told AsiaOne that she was brought to the Accident & Emergency Department at Changi General Hospital immediately after the mishap, where they had a wait of some 14 hours before her mother was warded.

She also told AsiaOne that her mother needed monitoring for 24 hours so that her condition could be properly assessed.

Ms Poh added that she was planning on filing a police report over the incident.

Netizens expressed sympathy over the incident and wished the elderly woman a speedy recovery.

Others, however, said that the transport company should be accountable for the mishap.
