Popular Indonesian preacher Abdul Somad was denied entry to Singapore, and his Instagram post about his ‘deportation’ from Singapore quickly went viral.
It received over 150,000 likes on Instagram for a post in which he claims that while awaiting deportation, he was placed in a “jail-like” confined immigration detention room.

While his followers were outraged, the religious figure did not pursue his deportation any further. At least, not on social media, aside from the post in which he shows he is in detention.

In another post, he says he is putting the shopping money for the Singapore trip into a Waqf (Donation) for the development of an Islamic boarding school.
Abdul Somad adds that he went to Singapore on a vacation to visit various tourist attractions, “to eat, stay, shop, spend money for the good of Singapore’s economy.”
“But Singapore turned out to reject me. Today we probably don’t need to use our money to go shopping in Singapore, the funds can be diverted to waqf to complete the construction of the Nurul Azhar Islamic Boarding School & Preschool and Nurul Azhar Kindergarten Foundation for the People’s Waqf Fund.
“Father, mother, brother and sister, who wish to participate in waqf to complete the construction of the project, please transfer the waqf to the following account.”
At the time of publishing, the post got more than 15,000 likes on IG. This shows how popular he is.
The preacher stated that he was not told why he was asked to leave the ‘Little Red Dot’, but insisted that he had all of the necessary documentation for his visit.
Abdul Somad openly criticised the Singaporean government and demanded an explanation for why he was “rejected,” as he put it.
According to reports, Abdul Somad and his family and friends boarded a ferry from Batam to Singapore on Monday.
However, Abdul Somad and his travel companions were held up for three hours at Singapore’s Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal upon arrival before immigration officials told them to return to Indonesia.
Indonesia’s Embassy in Singapore rejects the statement that the preacher was deported, saying that he never passed the Immigration and Checkpoints and was imposed a ‘not to land’, as he did not meet the criteria to be eligible for visiting Singapore.
