27-year old Sean Lee has reimagined Singapore as a futuristic, underwater city and has come up with images to show.

The graduate of Nanyang Technological University’s School of Art, Design and Media was particularly influenced and inspired to recreate an underwater Singapore from the fictional city Rapture, from the Bioshock series video game.

Sean: Hands-off approach by the governement on the HDB buildings still above the ocean level has led to private businessmen supplying water and power to these apartments leading to even more vibrant communities forming kelongs along the rims of these HDBs. Great place for bbq seafood too. — in Singapore.

Sean: Wealthy Land Owners managed to “waterproof” their private property creating various bio-dome living spaces below the waves — in Singapore.

Sean took each image himself, using the base photo of an actual location of Singapore before using Photoshop to edit them.

He also told TISG that it took him an average of five days to create an image. The shortest took roughly two nights, and the longest took slightly more than a week. “That time does not include me going out to take photos”, he added.

In reference to the details such as signboards in each image, he said, “I also preferred using Malay and Chinese signs as compared to English and I really liked using the four language signs that Singapore has for the transport system (English, Malay, Chinese, Tamil)”.

When asked about what comes next for him, Sean said “I have many ideas for this series and I really want to cover more areas in singapore. But I will also concurrently be doing other personal projects as well”.

Lee also shares some of his work on Instagram as well.
