Trump sits in Winston Churchill’s chair just two weeks after Hillary Clinton compared herself to Churchill

A photo of US President Donald Trump sitting on the chair of iconic ex-UK Prime Minister Winston Churchill has been going viral online, after press secretary Sarah Sanders shared the snap on Twitter earlier today.

The picture of President Trump occupying Churchill’s seat was shot during the US leader’s working visit to London today where he met Queen Elizabeth II and British PM Theresa May. Sanders shared that PM May invited President Trump to sit on Churchill’s chair during their meeting:

Interestingly, the viral photo above comes just two weeks after President Trump’s election rival Hillary Clinton compared herself to Churchill in an interview with the Guardian, published on 29 June.

Amid speculation that she is set on contesting the next US election in 2020, the Guardian asked the 70-year-old if she has considered whether withdrawing from public life might be the most effective contribution she could make to “healing the country’s divisions”.

According to the Guardian, Clinton flashed back “sharply, a fraction too quickly for the line to sound spontaneous” as she said:

“I’m sure they said that about Churchill between the wars, didn’t they? I mean, I’m not comparing myself, but I’m just saying people said that, but he was right about Hitler, and a lot of people in England were wrong. And Churchill was a pain. He kept popping up all the time.”

It is unclear whether the photo of President Trump in Churchill’s chair is a coincidence or a deliberate taunt. What is clear, however, is that President Trump supporters are lapping it up:
