SINGAPORE: For single people who are looking for their match, knowing their love language feels like a dating essential. With this, a netizen asked on Reddit if there are people who place love language as a top factor to consider in finding a partner, and if it makes dating a harder process.
In the post, the netizen admitted that her love language is a mix of quality time and touch, so when someone values personal space and is not fond of holding hands in public, it turns her off in a way.
“I’m the type to drop everything for my partner where possible… I’m the type who just likes to snuggle with my partner, which seems hard since Singaporeans seem more conservative?” she claimed.
With this, many netizens commented their thoughts and opinions about the subject matter at hand, and it sparked a very interesting conversation about the significance of love languages.
One comment claimed that love languages are an indicator of how a person prefers to receive love, and it is a bit strange to see certain love languages as turn-offs.
“It just means you aren’t willing to love the person in that way or you don’t want to understand the person more deeply (empathy needed here),” the comment further added.
Another netizen remarked that being willing to learn the love language of another person shows effort and commitment to the relationship.
“It’s less about matching or compatibility but rather the willingness to accommodate each other,” a comment shared.
“I’d say that it’s hard to judge someone’s love language too quickly! I guess it’s best to just get to know people and see where things go rather than evaluating potential partners too quickly!,” a comment concluded.
Love languages may offer insight into how people give and receive affection, but they are not necessarily a dealbreaker. For many, mutual understanding and willingness to accommodate matter more.
