[Discussion] What is more important for startup success? The product? Or the founder?

Did the iPhone take off because it was a gorgeous product? Or was it because of the vision of Steve Jobs?

We have heard it all too often: No matter badly a product fails in the beginning, a founder who has a solid vision will succeed at achieving his or her goals. One example is the NeXT debacle for Steve Jobs.

But without a solid product, will a startup even get people interested? Thus the question:

What makes a startup successful? Is it the vision and commitment of the founders? Is it the team’s mindset and passion to perform? Or is it a superior technology or product?
