Viral message asks Malays to break their silence

In a viral WhatsApp story in Malaysia, an underwriter who was working for Malaysia National Insurance about forty years ago urged Malays not to remain silent in the wake of the scandals that has rigged Prime Minister Najib Razak’s government recently.

The Independent can reveal the blog’s name even though the underwriter was not the person who forwarded the message in WhatsApp.

The blog name is not mentioned in the WhatsApp message.

The underwriter said he was invited by a Menteri Besar in a state in Malaysia join the UMNO in order to reap benefits with business contracts from the political lineage.

The Menteri Besar told him to “go join Umno” in order to get business from the state. The anonymous blogger did join Umno and got business from the state.

That would mean opposition members would most not likely get any business deals.

This may only happen in countries where cronyism is rampant.

He also used adjectives that we cannot publish here when he spoke of Prime Minister Najib Razak’s wife.

“And then I went into Insurance Broking. Our family business, ZETA, had a joint venture with Hogg Robinson and we called the company Zeta Hogg Robinson.

“In order to get business from DBKL, government agencies and Petronas, we Bumiputra Insurance Bers formed a Consortium and whatever business we secured from the government we shared among ourselves.

“The non-Bumiputra Insurance Brokers were not part of this arrangement,” said the anonymous blogger on the viral Whatsapp message.”

The part above claims the racial disparity the blogger claims that is and was in the business aspect of this country all along.

The blogger then claimed to have left Malaysia for good due to its corruption. He wrote it in a way that he feels ashamed for what he claimed to have done.

He also stated that people in Malaysia need help from officials or the ruling party to “get anything done” as in to make a successful business or land a multi-million ringgit contracts.

Towards the end of the Whatsapp message, the anonymous blogger wrote in such a chilling way “Are you still keeping quiet?”.

On another topic, the underwriter showed his frustration with blogging, which did not bring him a dime, despite his 13 million views and thousands of posts.
