SINGAPORE: In an unexpected twist within the local entertainment scene, a new trend is making waves: Only Fans creators are stepping into deejaying in Singapore. Notable figures like Titus Low and Siew Pui Yi, also known as Ms Puiyi from Singapore and Malaysia, respectively, are breaking boundaries, expanding beyond adult content creation to showcase their musical talents.

This unique intersection of Only Fans content and deejaying may seem surprising, but it signifies a broader shift in the creative pursuits of online personalities. Only Fans, initially infamous for its mature content, has diversified its content creators to include fitness experts, chefs, artists, celebrities, and now, DJs. Only Fans’ commitment to supporting emerging musicians through its creative fund is noteworthy.

On March 16, 2021, DJMag reported Only Fans’ announcement of a creative fund to support budding artists in the music industry. Launched in response to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Only Fans, the content subscription service connecting creators with their fans, introduced the Only Fans Creative Fund.

The fund offers four aspiring artists the chance to win £20,000 to jumpstart their careers. Commenting on the fund, Only Fans founder Tim Stokely expressed excitement, stating, “We’re really thrilled to announce the new Creative Fund! Almost every industry, including music, has had an incredibly tough time throughout lockdown. There are a lot of fantastic musicians on Only Fans who have been getting creative during this time and engaging with their fanbase on the social platform. We wanted to shine a spotlight on up-and-coming talent and give these artists a much-needed boost to help them grow.”

As the digital landscape witnesses a surge in engagement and revenue for content creators, some artists are exploring unconventional paths, challenging traditional norms. Reports indicate that with traditional revenue sources like music sales and show tickets facing challenges due to streaming and technological advancements, artists are seeking innovative solutions. This fusion of music and content creation blurs established lines and opens exciting possibilities for artists and their communities.

DJ Sakura leads this emerging scene, an influential figure in both deejaying and content creation on Only Fans. She provides insights into the motivations, challenges, and successes of Only Fans creators venturing into the music industry.

In Shout’s Asian Parents Reacting to Only Fans video on YouTube, DJ Sakura shared that she was selling her photos on other platforms before starting Only Fans. She also stated, “I’m doing this because I like to do photoshoots for myself personally, so it might be a good idea to make some money out of it since there are such platforms all over.”

From the statement she provided through her PR firm, she added that her choice is a way to reshape stereotypes through this type of artistry: “A lot of people believe that Only Fans is so easy, but it is not as simple as that. It involves lots of planning and staging such as venue, props, outfits, communication with others for collaboration, and more. It is about showing people who I am too, and what is the best way to portray that.”

Sharing her challenges in choosing her career path, she added, “Singapore is still a relatively conservative society, and facing hate comments and criticism is inevitable. It did actually affect my mental health, but I believe that everyone should respect others’ decisions and “my body, my choice” – being an Only Fans creator should not affect how someone judges me as a person.”

Since her debut in 2016, DJ Sakura has defied stereotypes as one of the first DJs to embrace Only Fans. She has built an extensive fanbase of over 800,000 dedicated followers across platforms like Only Fans, Kofi, and Telegram.

With the dynamic creator economy, DJ Sakura stands not just as a trendsetter but as a formidable business powerhouse, showcasing the boundless potential for creators in today’s digital age, where music and content creation converge, giving way to new opportunities. As per Billboard, 7 known individuals in the music industry are in Only Fans, including Cardi B, Swae Lee, Rico Nasty, The-Dream, Rubi Rose, Safaree Samuels, Erica Mena, and Casanova. /TISG
