Chen Show Mao quells all speculations that he’s quitting Workers’ Party

Mr Chen Show Mao, an MP of Aljunied GRC and an exco-member of the Workers’ Party (WP) has quelled all speculations that he is quitting the party after his stepping down as the Treasurer of WP.

Writing in his Facebook Mr Chen said: “Of course my focus remains Paya Lebar and Parliament, and the Party too, though in a different way than before now that my term as WP Treasurer has come to an end. I did not quit or resign, but have stepped down from the post in accordance with the terms of my appointment. At the time of my appointment three months ago, it was agreed with the CEC, which appointed me, that my term as WP Treasurer would end in three months’ time, which is now upon us.”

The online publication, Mothership, especially had fuelled such speculations. Referring to The Straits Times report that Chen Show Mao had quit as the Treasurer of Workers’ Party (WP), it cast doubts if Mr Chen will stay on in WP.

The writer of the article, Managing Editor Martino Tan, referred to Workers’ Party MP Chen Show Mao’s non-attendance at the wake of former President SR Nathan, and him not making a Speech during the parliamentary debate about the Administration of Justice (Protection) bill despite him being a trained lawyer, to cast those doubts.

But besides Mr Chen, other WP parliamentarians like Mr Leon Perera were also not present at the wake of Mr Nathan. And despite not speaking at the debate, Mr Chen voted ‘No’ to the Bill. He also proclaimed WP’s stand on the issue in his Facebook.
