SINGAPORE: Singaporeans have rallied behind a 21-year-old Ukranian who recently took his efforts to save his father’s Slavic restaurant in Singapore to TikTok.
The young man reportedly dropped out of Singapore’s best university to save the family business. His humble and honest approach seems to have tugged on the heartstrings of Singaporeans, who have answered his call, ready to support the restaurant.
“I dropped out of Singapore’s best university to save my family from going bankrupt,” a young man recently shared in a TikTok video for @kapitansingapore. “Let me explain,” he said. “My dad sunk our entire family’s life savings into building a Slavic restaurant here in Singapore. Living in Singapore for the past 19 years, we realised there were many cuisines, but it lacked Slavic food, and we wanted to introduce that to Singaporeans.”

He then shared how the family business has struggled: “We thought that business would pick up if we continued to serve good food and great service. But time went by and our sales kept dropping. That’s when I decided to drop out and go all in to save my dad’s restaurant. I’m only 21 and I have no background in F&B, but I’m determined to make this work and that’s where I need your help. Part 2, he shared, would be a video about changing the restaurant menu.

The young man’s humility and authenticity drew the attention of many, who took to the post’s comments section to say they would visit the restaurant to support his family’s business.
“Okay, this ang mo talk very honest. Will go and support,” said one.
The video creator replied saying, “This ang mo welcomes you. See you soon!”
“This ang mo sounds honest. I’ll come check out one day,” wrote another.
“I’ve been here and the food was good!” another shared. And this ang mo is very friendly! Good service! Worth it to try!”
“I intend to visit at some point during this week in order to try your cuisine. I am sure you will do well, young sir,” wrote a fourth.
Even netizens who aren’t in Singapore caught wind of the video and said they would make it a point to stop by the restaurant on future visits to Singapore.
“May we know the price range?” asked one.
The content creator replied, “Our food ranges from S$15 to S$30 Per dish!”
