SINGAPORE: Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has taken to social media to share a special message for nurses on Nurses Day.
Mr Lee took to Facebook on Tuesday (August 1) to celebrate Nurses Day. “Happy Nurses Day to all our nurses!” he wrote. “Nurses are always at the forefront of our healthcare system. They play a vital role in caring for patients, promoting healthcare and preventing illness. Without them, our healthcare system would not be what it is today.”
Beyond being a job, Mr Lee recognised nursing as a vocation, saying, “Nursing is more than a job, it is a calling. It demands hard work and “heart” work, and oftentimes sacrifices and selflessness.”
He then thanked the front liners for their work and their loved ones for supporting the nurses’ callings, saying, “To each and every one of our nurses, thank you for your service, dedication and professionalism! Thank you too to your loved ones for the strong support.”
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong also took to social media to share a Nurses Day greeting.
“Nurses and all our healthcare workers form the heart of our healthcare system,” wrote Mr Wong. “You have looked after our loved ones in hard times, and at times when they were at their most vulnerable. You have gone above and beyond in times of crisis. Today, we commemorate your dedication and care. A big thank you for keeping Singapore safe and healthy!”
Many Singaporeans followed suit and greeted nurses in the comments section of their social media posts, thanking and honouring them for their dedication to caring for the people.
