SINGAPORE: A woman took to TikTok to refute accusations that she was using her autistic sister for an Estée Lauder video advertisement.
The video showed the woman applying Estée Lauder cosmetic products while she spoke about her autistic sister, for whom the woman is a full-time caregiver. However, commenters were unhappy and accused the woman of using her sister in the ad campaign.
Ms Andreana Tay, who regularly posts about autism on her TikTok account, wrote on June 13 that the brand’s Double Wear Stay-In-Place Foundation helps her “get through 24-hours (literally) of my day with a boost of confidence!”

She obviously loves her sister, Audrey, who has autism and has shown videos of the two of them walking while holding hands or bringing home her sister’s favourite bread.
Ms Tay’s clips also teach the public about what living with a person with autism is like, and she has been open about her own shortcomings as well as thankful for the invaluable help from their helper, Kakak.
And while many commend her for her positive attitude, the video also received negative feedback from commenters. Some have even accused Ms Tay of using her sister to get sponsors.
In her latest video on June 24 (Sunday), she talked about her recent sponsored post with Estée Lauder products and set the record straight that she is doing what she does to ensure her sister’s financial future.
