SINGAPORE: A construction worker sustained injuries after a section of a wall’s reinforcing bar and the adjacent scaffolding collapsed at the Tuas Water Reclamation Plant construction site on Thursday morning (22 June). This latest accident comes amid 14 work-related deaths that have taken place in 2023 alone.

The incident yesterday occurred at 71A Tuas Nexus Drive around 5:25am. The Public Utilities Board (PUB) said that a 31-year-old worker was involved in supervising the lifting and relocation of the scaffolds at the site when the accident transpired.

Revealing that the man suffered injuries to his left arm and left leg, PUB said that the worker’s condition was stable when he was subsequently transported to the National University Hospital for treatment.

China State Construction Engineering Corporation, responsible for the ongoing construction work at the site, employed the injured worker through one of its sub-contractors.

PUB has initiated an investigation and has implemented a temporary halt to all related activities at the construction site.

This incident comes just a day after the Workplace Safety and Health Council revealed that another worker died after being electrocuted while installing solar panels at a worksite.
