Vlogger claims cosmetics retailer in Lot 1 looked down on her because she is Malay

A vlogger, Gia, claimed that she was looked down on just because she is Malay, by a salesperson in Sasa. Sasa is a cosmetics retailer and they have an outlet in Lot 1, a shopping mall in Choa Chu Kang.
The vlogger said that she went to the outlet to buy a particular brand of perfume. Her husband was confirming the brand of the perfume with a friend over the phone, when the incident happened.
The vlogger asked the middle-aged, female, Chinese salesperson if there were any discounts for the perfumes which were on sale. According to the vlogger the salesperson replied her in a condescending manner.
The vlogger was outraged because the salesperson through her actions, indicated that the vlogger would not be able to afford a perfume which was worth over $120.
“Firstly she thinks I am Malay and cannot affor this expensive perfume. Secondly I think based on her experience, Malay people like me are cheapskate, low class #@%!, who will just come in, spray perfume, smell and then walk out, without even buying,” Gia said.
According to the vlogger, the salesperson told her colleague to keep an eye on the couple. The vlogger took it to mean “just make sure we don’t steal because we are #@%! Malay.”
“Not all Malays are shoplifters and not all Malays cannot afford to buy perfume,” she said angrily on her vlog.
Her vlog on Facebook has gone viral with over 2000 shares. There are many comments by other Malay Facebook users on her post. Most of them commented that they have had similar experiences with other retailers in Singapore.
