A concerned member of the public took to social media to warn others of a public hire vehicle (PHV) driver who initially allowed them to cross the road before suddenly accelerating the vehicle. The netizen explained that the driver stopped at the carpark pedestrian crossing and waved at them to let them pass.

“Watch out for this PHV driver,” wrote a Facebook page Complaint Singapore member on Saturday (Dec 3). “My son and I walked until we were in front of the car, then the driver began to move off,” said the individual, noting they almost got knocked down by the driver’s actions.

“The driver didn’t want to come out at first and tried to look blur. Then he came out. He smelt like he was drinking and talking damn slow,” said the father. He added that the driver then tried lecturing the pedestrians on road safety like it was their fault for crossing in front of his stopped vehicle. “Pointed his middle finger at us before he drove off.”

Netizens advised the pedestrian that he should have reported the incident to the police the moment he smelled the alcohol. The individual confirmed that he filed a police report. Pedestrians are advised to practice extra caution even in situations when it seems safe. /TISG
