After a Singaporean shared a picture of a squirrel with its mouth full of sticks during an outdoor walk, many other netizens have taken to the comments section of the post to share jokes, some of which hinted at the current economic situation.

The Singaporean on Sunday (Nov 6) took to an online news forum to share an animal sighting photo. This shot featured a tiny brown squirrel dashing down a tree trunk with its mouth full of sticks. “Squirrel with a mouth full of sticks (?) on my walk,” the caption read.

In the comments section of the post, some netizens shared fun facts about the tiny animals. “Yeah, squirrels build nests out of twigs and leaves,” said one, “the interior is usually lined with fur and dried plant material.”

Others made comments about the squirrel being hard at work. “Squirrel is hustling for the fire,” wrote one, while another said, “Getting that bread–I respect the hustle.”

According to National Parks Singapore, these squirrels native to Singapore are active both during the day and night. They eat both animal and plant material and make their nests out of twigs.

Still, some commented jokes made reference to the current economic and housing situation in Singapore. “Even animals have a better housing plan,” wrote one, while another said, “It couldn’t afford a house in this economy, so it builds its own.”

“He’s building his own BTO (Build to Order) because he’s fed up with waiting,” another wrote.
