A minimart operator took to social media to give a group of shoplifters a chance to own up to their actions before reporting the incident to the police otherwise.

A Facebook group Complaint Singapore member posted details of the shoplifting incident at a Bukit Batok St 21 minimart on Thursday (Oct 6).

The closed-circuit television footage revealed at least three youths passing through the store aisles.

According to the owner, the shoplifters took at least one small Absolute Vodka and a Maggi Cup Mashed Potato and placed the items in a big white bag. “Will hold onto the video first,” he added.

The minimart operator is extending leniency towards the group and giving them time to return to the store.

“To avoid the whole video being posted and (a) police report made, please come back to the minimart within the next two days,” said the owner, who also warned other Bukit Batok shops to take caution.

Members from the online community commended the minimart operator for being kind and giving the individuals a chance.

“I hope this resolves well, and it’s one of those teenage stories they can learn from and talk about for years to come,” said Facebook user Grinch Michael.

“Thank you for giving those kids a chance,” another netizen added.

Others urged the individuals to return the items before trouble happens and to learn from their mistakes. /TISG
