After a netizen shared a video of a rather unique pool of water under an HDB estate, asking netizens whether it’s a pool or a canal, many have flocked to the comments section of the post, focusing instead on the catfish seen in the water.
“So I was walking around this estate and I came across this pond,” the videographer is heard saying. “It’s like–look at the shape. It’s like some zig-zaggy thing. There’s water and there’s this footbridge thing, and what’s this…what’s this?”
At this point in the video, the camera focused on four large catfish seen at the bottom of the estate pond. “The fish are so big!” the netizen said, before exclaiming, “Monster!”
This video seemed to entertain Singaporeans. According to one online user, the spot where the video was taken is found near Block 10 Jalan Batu. “It’s a famous spot. Can’t miss it. Very easy to find the place,” they said.
A few commented on the design of the artificial waterway, with one saying “What kind of pond is that? Messed up design.”
Still, others made mention of otters, jokingly warning the videographer to keep the location of the catfish a secret from the animals known to eat them. “Don’t let the otters know,” said one.
Another who seemed to know some things about fish said, “African catfish. It wouldn’t be easy for other fish to live there with this kind of catfish. This is not clean water fish.”
As for the question in the video taker’s caption “A pond or a canal at HDB estate?” The answer remains mostly unanswered.
