In conjunction with the Bulan Bahasa 2022, Red Dot United will be organising a seminar on Sep 24 to have meaningful dialogues and honest discussions on issues that are still affecting the Malay community in Singapore.
Invited speakers to the seminar include Damanhuri Abas, independent researcher Dr Syed Alwi Ahmad, and lecturer Suryakenchana Omar.
Damanhuri contested the 2015 and 2020 Singapore General Election with Singapore Democratic Party at Marsiling – Yew Tee GRC.
According to their event page on Facebook, RDU said, “There are still a lot of insecurities and inequalities embedded in our society against Malay Singaporeans, and these often hit them where it hurts most – their pockets.”
The party believes that this unfair discrimination is unknowingly perpetuated by stereotypical prejudices, aided partly by certain Government policies.
“RDU recognises that these cannot be undone overnight, or with the stroke of a pen. This seminar is one small step in that direction.”
Dr Syed is no stranger to the online community as he is active in presenting his views on Malay Muslim issues, in particular topics such as ‘position in Singapore Armed Forces for the Malays’ and ‘why Singapore is cautious with its Malays’.
As for Damanhuri, he has been active in the Malay Muslim community since young and is passionate about making changes through his various engagements and believes that transformation begins with the self and family and with that, the catalyst to spark change will follow.
The final speaker for the seminar is RDU’s treasurer Liyana Dhamirah, and the event will be moderated by Moes Mulyadi, the party’s youth wing member.
RDU has held regular seminars to engage with the public on various issues and policies. In August this year, they had a seminar on ‘pressure on a cosmopolitan city and the mental wellbeing of our young people. A month before that they focused on ‘closing the pay gap – why wage inequality makes us all vulnerable’. /TISG
