Elderly Indian couple suing their son for £530,000 in damages for failing to provide a grandchild

An elderly couple in India is dragging their only child to court to sue him for half a million pounds for failing to provide them with a grandchild, and this has got netizens to weigh in with negative views against the couple.

They are asking £500,000 from the son, saying he and his wife have failed to provide them with a grandchild and that their pain will be bearable if they had a grandchild to spend time with.

Sanjiv Ranjan Prasad and his wife Sadhana Prasad are threatening to sue their son for £530,000 in damages if he does not have a child within the next year.

They even told the ANI news agency that they “didn’t care about gender; all they wanted was a grandchild.”

“My son has been married for six years, but they are still not planning a baby. At least if we have a grandchild to spend time with, our pain will become bearable,” the couple said in their petition filed with a court in Haridwar last week.

Mr Prasad stated that he was experiencing financial difficulties, which prompted him to sue his own son, who married in 2016.

He also claims that his daughter-in-law and her family have complete control over his son’s finances and have prevented them from having a child.

“I gave my son all my money, got him trained in America. I don’t have any money now. We have taken a loan from the bank to build a house. We’re troubled financially and personally”.

The irritated father claimed he spent all of his money on his son’s education in the United States (the latter is now a pilot) and the father is now in financial trouble.

The compensation demand includes the cost of a five-star wedding reception, a luxury car, and the couple’s international honeymoon.

He also claims that his son moved to Hyderabad, purchased a home in his wife’s name, and stopped communicating with his parents.
