Heartbroken chef @ Jurong BBQ seafood hawker stall takes a week off after falling out of love, stall closes as chef seeks solace from the sea

Heartbreaks can really mess things up for anybody, sapping the energy to continue with daily activities. It appears such was the case for a chef who had to take a week off after falling out of love.

Facebook user Sky Qiang posted photos of a notice spotted at Bro’s BBQ in Jurong on April 20. “Our chef fell out of love…(He’s) going to clear his head (and has) gone to seek solace from the sea. We will be taking a break for a week (April 7-13)…Don’t worry; the chef won’t jump into the sea,” the notice reads when translated into English.

“Chef, be sure to come back to work,” quipped Mr Qiang in his caption.

Netizens took the side of the chef and encouraged him to have a good break, given he had an essential role in the public sector.

“Well done. Good to clear one’s head as you know your job is an important role, a service to the public. Have a good break,” said Facebook user Sarah Walia.

“Might as well as the food may taste awful due to his predicament,” added another netizen, while another said it was always good to have a mental health break.

Many also wished him the best and hoped he would find the one “fish in the sea.”

However, it was revealed by Sin Chew Daily that the notice was simply a sarcastic way of announcing the stall was closing for a week.

The stall owner named Ye, 38, told Sin Chew Daily that he hoped to make customers laugh with the cheeky announcement.

Mr Ye added that the chef was temporarily transferred to another branch due to a staff shortage.

The owner said many of his employees are Malaysian, hence unable to return home for the past two years.

He has been allowing them to take leave of absence in batches as border restrictions are eased.

Due to the manpower crunch, the Jurong outlet chef was sent over to one of two other Bro’s BBQ outlets in Toa Payoh and Tampines.

Mothership confirmed that the chef is fine, and the previously mentioned heartbreak was a joke. /TISG
