A volunteer with activist Gilbert Goh was seen going above and beyond in helping the elderly.

As part of a meal distribution initiative, Mr Goh and volunteers distributed meals to the elderly and less fortunate. In a Facebook post on Saturday (Feb 19), Mr Goh shared a photo of a volunteer helping to cut the toenails of an elderly man who suffered from a stroke.

The photo showed the elderly man standing as the volunteer knelt down and clipped his nails. “He is relieved as the toe nail touches the tip of his sandal causing him immense discomfort”, wrote Mr Goh.

Mr Goh explained that two of the man’s toes were also missing due to his diabetic condition.
“Do something good for Singapore – a charity movement to alleviate the hardships of displaced elderly Singaporeans”, Mr Goh wrote.

Activist Gilbert Goh has been raising awareness regarding the plight of Singapore’s homeless for some time now, but he has also underlined that their situation has become more difficult than ever, especially due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

However, last year, Mr Goh encountered an elderly woman whom he called “probably our saddest rough sleeper case so far.”

In a Facebook post on Jul 25, Mr Goh wrote about and shared the photos of the auntie, whom he said “cut a pitiful spectacle” during the homeless outreach he and his team conducted the day before.

They met the woman, who survives by collecting and selling used tins, as she was pushing her trolley.
