Loh Kean Yew’s world championship win ‘a wake-up call’ for Malaysia — President of Malaysia’s badminton association

Singapore — New badminton world champion Loh Kean Yew may have been born in Penang, but he has been competing for Singapore for many years.

On Monday (Dec 20), Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria, the president of the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) called Loh’s win “a wake-up call,” according to Malaysian national news agency Bernama.

M’sia ‘doesn’t need to wait’ for S’pore to resume HSR project, Thailand, China etc., interested — former PM Muhyiddin

Kuala Lumpur — Malaysia’s former Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin said that the country did not need to wait for Singapore to proceed with the High-Speed Rail (HSR) project, noting many other countries were interested in the project.

In his keynote address for his party’s (Bersatu) fourth annual general assembly on Dec 19, Mr Muhyiddin claimed that countries like Thailand, China, and the Indo-China region were interested in partnering with Malaysia for an HSR project.

Bank employee replaces genuine notes with fake bills & blank paper; embezzles S$1.13m from company safe

Singapore — A banking operations specialist took almost S$1.13 million from his company’s safe over the course of two years, which he used for gambling or repaying personal debts.

He was able to embezzle the sums by taking genuine notes from his company’s safe and replacing them with counterfeit ones bought online or blank sheets of paper cut up in the shape of genuine notes. Tan also withdrew more cash than what customers requested, so he could pocket the balance.

OMICRON cluster detected at Anytime Fitness outlet in Bukit Timah, 3 cases suspected — MOH

Singapore — The Ministry of Health (MOH) said on Monday (Dec 20) that it has detected a cluster of three Covid-19 cases linked to Anytime Fitness at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, of whom two have tested preliminarily positive for the Omicron variant.

All three cases are fully vaccinated and have mild symptoms, said MOH in a press release. It added that the result for the remaining case is pending.
