PDPC makes about turn on 'Do-Not-Call Registry’ Rules

The Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) made several changes to the rules of Do-Not-Call (DNC) registry after banks and insurance companies pressurized PDPC into making concessions.
In the original landmark proposal PDPC protected personal information from being stolen or indiscriminately used for marketing. It made it difficult for telemarketers to make unsolicited calls to consumers.
However, under the new concessions, banks and telemarketing companies can make calls or send messages to existing clients. “It dilutes the original intention of DNC Registry,” said Seah Seng Choon of Consumers Association of Singapore.
It looks like more work is cut out for Consumers Association of Singapore to lobby for more personal data protection here.
