Pritam Singh visits Compassvale with daughters in wake of Raeesah Khan bombshell

Singapore — Workers Party chief  Pritam Singh posted a photo on social media after visiting the Sengkang branch library with his two young daughters.

The visit may have been the first time the Leader of the Opposition and WP secretary-general had visited Compassvale since his fellow MP Raeesah Kahn (Sengkang GRC) admitted  last week that she had lied to Parliament  a few months ago.

“The ladies and I had a fruitful time at the Sengkang library this afternoon. Apart from meeting some residents with hushed hellos (!), I had a short chat with some delightful library staff. Great meeting and speaking to some residents at CompassOne too!,”  Mr Singh wrote in text accompanying the shot.

Ms Khan, who represents Compassvale, admitted that she lied when she told the House on Aug 3 that she had accompanied a victim of sexual assault to the police station, and accused the police of making inappropriate remarks. It happened during a debate on empowering women.

An extended exchange between Ms Khan and the Leader of the House, Ms Indranee Rajah, on Monday ended with Ms Indranee referring the matter to Parliament’s Committee of Privileges, a step that could lead to the  MP being censured or worse.

The fallout from Ms Khan’s admission imay also result in consequences for  her party.

Netizens’ comments on the post would seem to indicate that Mr Singh’s own popularity in Compassvale  has not been blighted.

Several commenters use the opportunity to bring up issues in the area, which the WP chief responded to personally.

One netizen told him he looks “shocked” but “still handsome” when he takes selfies.

Mr SIngh  also shared the titles of the books his daughters chose: “Max & Ruby’s Babysitting Squad, Mr Shaha’s Marvellous Machines, In my Mosque, Noah’s Ark, Accessorize Yourself: 66 Projects to personalise your look (!!)”

This led netizens to offer titles of other children’s books.
