Thousands of Singaporeans have signed a petition asking the authorities and global financial services company J.P. Morgan to sack an employee and have him deported back to India, following his abhorrent behaviour towards a security guard that was caught on camera last week.
On Friday night (25 Oct), a video of a man verbally abusing a hapless security officer went viral on social media. In the incident, which reportedly took place at the Eight Riversuites condominium in Bendemeer, the man hurled vulgarities at the elderly guard after being told that guests visiting his condominium needed to pay parking fees.
Despite the security guards’ explanation that they are simply enforcing the rules, the condo resident continued to berate the workers. In his expletive-ridden rant, the man bragged to the security officers that he bought his condominium unit for S$1.5 million. He exclaimed: “I buy your f****** property for S$1.5 million you know.”
Netizens subsequently identified the condo resident as Ramesh Erramalli, a foreign talent from India who works at global financial services company J.P. Morgan in Singapore. J.P. Morgan has since said that it is looking into the matter but declined to comment on how long Ramesh has been an employee and whether it paid for Ramesh’s alleged S$1.5 million accommodation.
Irate Singaporeans are now calling on the organisation to fire Ramesh. A petition calling on J.P. Morgan to terminate Ramesh’s employment has garnered over 27,000 signatures on change.org. The petition, which also wants the authorities to deport Ramesh out of Singapore, states:
“We the citizens of Singapore want to see JP Morgan take a firm stance on the behaviour of its staff here and seek that Ramesh Erramalli be terminated from his position with immediate effect.
“We would also like to see his working privileges here in Singapore revoked by the Ministry of Manpower and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and deported of out Singapore after. Individuals like Ramesh Erramalli are not welcomed to reside and make a living here in Singapore.
“We Singaporeans take a firm stance in cases of ill-treatment of Singaporeans by foreign individuals. We stand united as one in defending our Singaporean brothers and sisters against foreign bullies like Ramesh Erramalli and ensure that such individuals face the consequences of their actions.”
Those who signed the petition said that they did so because they felt Ramesh has insulted Singaporeans and because they do not want foreigners to make a living in Singapore and belittle Singaporeans. -/TISG
