PAP membership cards that were personally signed by Lee Kuan Yew may not be as special as some might believe

According to vintage item collector Dan Teo Khai Mun, old People’s Action Party (PAP) membership cards that appear to have been personally signed by founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew may not be as special as some may believe them to be.

Vintage PAP membership cards, like this one below which goes for nearly $2000, are considered very valuable because they appear to be personally signed by the late Mr Lee:

Mr Teo, who maintains a collection of vintage artifacts from Singapore, wrote on Facebook: “In an article published by Lianhe Zaobao on July 26, a lady claimed to own a PAP membership card signed by Singapore then Prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew in 1959. I have seen many of these membership cards and not a single one is hand signed by Lee Kuan Yew. They are all rubber stamp signatures.

“If you compare another card from my collection. You will notice that the rubber stamp signatures on both cards are identical. I came across another card when an ignorant fool used a pen to trace over the rubble stamp signature. And he claimed that the card was 100% hand signed by Lee Kuan Yew.”

Mr Teo shared examples of multiple membership cards on his social media post that appear to show that the “signatures” of Mr Lee could be a rubber stamp impression:
