The Progress Singapore Party is organising its very first walkabout, weeks after the first firm step to the next General Election (GE) was announced, in the form of the convening of the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee (EBRC).
The walkabout – which will be a major, island-wide event – is scheduled for Sunday, 29 Sept 2019. The party has yet to announce the timing, meeting point and details on regions that will be covered in the walkabout but the event could give observers a clue as to which wards the party might contest in the next election.
The party announced on Facebook this week: “Our fellow PSP comrades, the Electoral Boundaries Review Committee has been formed. Battle cries have been sounded across the island. In time to come, we will see our opponents face to face.
“This is the time for us PSP comrades to stand United, Resilient & Steadfast in our common interests for the coming battle to win the General Election. To serve our Country and People.
“Our opponent may out-number us and the odds stacked against us. However, we have within PSP, patriots from all walks of life who will stand up for their beliefs, and for the greater good of Singapore. Your conviction and determination will see us accomplish our cause!
“You have placed your Trust, Commitment and Loyalty to PSP’s principles and values. Now bring this faith and energy to help PSP in our September 29th Walkabout! Our Country needs you. Our People need you. We need you!
“We invite all PSP members and volunteers to join in for our first Walkabout to meet fellow Singaporeans! Be there, or be square!”
Last Sunday (15 Sept), PSP secretary-general Dr Tan Cheng Bock revealed that his party had planned to organise an island wide community event this morning but decided to postpone the event due to health concerns arising from the haze.
While the haze dampened the party’s initial plans, some members organised breakfast events in different parts of Singapore that same day.
While party members have been organising smaller gatherings and while Dr Tan himself has walked the ground some with his visits to coffeeshops and neighbourhoods since he announced the formation of his party, the 29 Sept event will be the PSP’s very first official walkabout and the party’s first major outreach event.
