A report by People magazine wrote that comedian Kevin Hart was involved in a car accident, escaping with a major back injury.
He was a passenger in his vintage Plymouth Barracuda when the vehicle driven by his friend, Jared Black veered off the road and landed in a ditch.
The car crashed through a wooden fence just before 1am on Mulholland Highway in Malibu.
Black’s fiancee Rebecca Broxterman who was also in the car was reported unharmed.
A news report by E! News said that Hart left the crash scene and headed to his nearby home before being treated for injuries at a local hospital.
The vehicle was said to be a mangled wreck with the windshield completely shattered.
Eniko Parrish, Kevin Hart’s wife told reporters outside the hospital that Hart was awake and doing great.
“He’s gonna be just fine. He’s good, everybody’s good. Thank god,” she said to reporters after returning from a coffee run. “He’s fine, he’s awake.”
The authorities reported that Black was “determined not to be under the influence of alcohol.”
Hart bought the vintage car as his 40th birthday present in July and showed off his new ride on Instagram. He nicknamed the car “Menace.”
Celebrities sent well wishes to the US comedian and actor, including Jumanji co-star Dwayne Johnson.
“Stop messing with my emotions brother @kevinhart4real. We have a lot more laughing to do together. Love you man. Stay strong,” Johnson wrote on Instagram.
Insiders close to Hart said that the comedian is expected to be discharged from the hospital by the end of the week.
He is expected to go through heavy physical therapy in the coming weeks as well as a steady schedule of doctors appointments as follow-up treatment.
His Sunday night back surgery went well but there is still work to be done to ensure that he comes back 100 per cent.
The driver and backseat passenger were pinned after the accident while Hart left the scene to get medical help and was taken to a nearby hospital. -/TISG
