Gossip Girl gets a reboot

Hit teen series Gossip Girl is being rebooted for a new generation and it is set eight years after the original series ended.

Ten one-hour episodes are slated for HBO Max, an upcoming streaming service from WarnerMedia.

News on the cast and release date have yet to be announced.

The original series starring Blake Lively is about a gang of rich New York teens and it was shown from 2007 to 2012.

The TV show kickstarted the careers of Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley and British actor Ed Westwick.

Kristen Bell narrated the episode and she went on to star in Frozen and hit comedy The Good Place.

According to producers, the reboot will address “how much social media – and the landscape of New York itself – has changed” in the last decade.

Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage are on board as executive producers while producer Joshua Safran will write the script.

HBO Max is due to launch early 2020.

Original programmes on the streaming service includes director Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: The Sisterhood; Love Life, a 10-episode rom-com anthology series starring Anna Kendrick and a new animated series based on the movie Gremlins.

Gossip Girl is originally based on a novel of the same name by author Cecily von Ziegesar in 2002 to 2011. -/TISG
