Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger and Twitter suffer outages

Users of Facebook faced issues loading images, videos and data across its apps today with people unable to load photos in the Facebook News Feed, view stories on Instagram or send messages in WhatsApp.

The outage was due to an error triggered during a routine maintenance operation.

Facebook posted a message on its official Twitter account at 7:49PM ET saying that the “issue has since been resolved and we should be back at 100 percent for everyone. We’re sorry for any inconvenience.”

Instagram also said its issues were resolved too.

DownDetector, which monitors website and app issues noted that the issues began around 8AM ET. The issues did not affect all images as pictures on Facebook and Instagram still load but others appeared blank.

Facebook Messenger had an issue where messages were unable to load.

As the outage continued on, Facebook released a second statement apologising for any inconvenience.

Facebook’s platform status website still lists a “partial outage,” with a note saying that the company is “working on a fix that will go out shortly.”

On the official Twitter support account, Twitter released a statement about the downtime: “We’re currently having some issues with DM delivery and notifications. We’re working on a fix and will follow up as soon as we have an update for you. Apologies for the inconvenience.”

As of publishing time, all services have been restored. -/TISG
