Eight-vehicle collision on Paya Lebar exit, motorcyclist rushed to hospital

Singapore – On December 28, Friday, around 5 pm, a major accident occurred along the Pan-Island Expressway (PIE). A chain collision made up of 3 taxis, 4 private cars and 1 motorcycle were found after the Paya Lebar exit along the direction of Tuas.

The 29-year-old motorcyclist was rushed to Tan Tock Seng Hospital after paramedics attended to him at the side of the road. He was conscious when he was brought to the hospital for further medical attention.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted of the accident and police investigations are currently ongoing.

According to netizens, such as Gary Soh L H, the affected lane is familiar to pile up accidents such as this.

In February 2015, the same lane experienced a pile-up involving 10 cars with 4 people being sent to the hospital. Earlier this year, there was an 11-car collision along PIE at Lornie Exit injuring 6 people.

In fact, the stretch of Pan-Island Expressway roads from Bedok – Eunos – Paya Lebar – Kallang to CTE is one of Singapore’s top 10 accident hotspots, according to Yahoo News. The list, which was shared and compiled by the taxi driver community, includes the cross junction at Bugis Junction/Rochor Road, Lornie Road and other exits along PIE such as Clementi Ave 6.

It would seem that motorists in this area do not leave at least 2-3 car lengths of space in between each vehicle.

Jack Lim further explained that this area is prone to queue cutters and leaving a big gap will ensure someone trying to cut your lane.
