Earlier today, former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak was arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for the alleged tampering of an audit report pertaining to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) financial scandal.
According to leak from a source unauthorized to speak to the media, “DS Najib arrested at MACC HQ at 10.51am regarding the 1MDB audit report tampering case”. This information was sent to media site Malay Mail via a text message.
The source also confirmed that Najib was arrested after he arrived at MACC federal headquarters in Putrajaya.
Najib had spent about four hours at the office on December 6, giving his statement to assist similar investigations.
On November 25, Auditor-General Madinah Mohamad revealed that the final audit report on 1MDB had been tampered with and that Najib had knowledge of it.
She also added that two crucial matters removed from the report were on the presence of wanted businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low at a 1MDB board meeting as well as the financial status of 1MDB.
The MACC has also questioned several other people about the report tampering, including Dzulkifli Ahmad, former legal officer in the Attorney-General’s Chambers, former chief secretary to the government Ali Hamsa and the then 1MDB group president Arul Kanda Kandasamy.
