Pritam Singh joins PAP MPs set to participate in The International Grand Committee Hearing on Fake News and Disinformation in London

Three Singapore Members of Parliament will participate in the hearing of the International Grand Committee on Fake News and Disinformation, in London on 27 November 2018.

The Committee comprises members of the national Parliaments of eight countries, and is co-led by the UK House of Commons Select Committee for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (“DCMS Committee”) and the Canadian Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics.

Singapore’s representatives are:

  • Mr Edwin Tong, Senior Minister of State for Law and Health, and Member of Parliament for Marine Parade GRC
  • Ms Sun Xueling, Senior Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of National Development, and Member of Parliament for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC; and
  • Mr Pritam Singh, Member of Parliament for Aljunied GRC.

They had also been members of the Select Committee on Deliberate Online Falsehoods which had recently presented its report to the Parliament of Singapore.

The DCMS Committee has convened an International Grand Committee to further address the important issue of fake news and disinformation.

Besides Singapore, parliamentarians from the United Kingdom, Canada, Ireland, Argentina, Brazil, Latvia and Australia are expected to be in attendance.

Singapore’s representatives will have the opportunity to join their overseas counterparts to deepen understanding and develop collective solutions to deal with fake news and disinformation.
