Singaporeans petition PM Lee to make all ministers publicly declare their assets

Over 200 individuals have signed an online petition calling on Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to ensure that all ministers publicly declare all their assets. The petition claims that such a move would “renew faith and trust” in the Government.

Although the petition was started on Change.org by an entity known as ‘Freedom Magazine,’ it appears as though the appeal was initiated by Facebook user Carl Nunes, since Nunes’ profile photo matches the cover photo on the petition. Nunes also shared the petition on social media and asked netizens to sign it.

Earlier this year, the Government exhorted the “clean wage policy” as it introduced parking charges for schoolteachers and soldiers and said that “hidden perks” like free parking will no longer will be allowed.

The subsequent revelation that elected MPs pay a heavily underpriced fee of $365 a year to park at any HDB estate and at Parliament House sparked widespread outrage from Singaporeans who said that the Government should “walk the talk” if it seriously wants to enforce a clean wage policy for others.

Several individuals, who signed the petition appealing for all ministers to publicly declare their assets, have said that they are supporting the petition in the interest of “honesty,” “transparency,” and “accountability.”

2011 presidential election candidate and former NTUC Income CEO Tan Kin Lian is among the signatories of the petition:
