Chan Chun Sing: People’s favourite or party’s favourite?

The recent People’s Action Party (PAP) biennial internal elections have gotten a lot of reactions from Singaporeans, with many speculating who the frontrunners are. Touted right from the beginning as top candidates to succeed Mr Lee Hsien Loong as prime minister are Ong Ye Kung, Chan Chun Sing and Heng Swee Keat. However, after photos showing Minister for Trade and Industry next to PM Lee were released, Mr Chan seems to be in the clear front. But, as to whether he is the people’s favourite still remains to be seen.

In a Facebook post on Friday, November 16, photos of Minister Chan were shared were during official events and parliamentary sessions, he can be seen seated next to Prime Minister Lee.

Andrew Loh, founder of The Online Citizen commented, “Look who is taking up which position. No need to speculate about who is going to be the next PM. If Chan Chun Sing is not picked, it will be a slap to his face”.

The post itself was captioned rather rudely, “Next PM? Even if he is chosen, that kind of face needs a tight slap”.

Netizens who commented on the post did not seem to be in favour of Mr Chan.

The question is, Chan Chun Sing: People’s favourite or party’s favourite?
