An older bespectacled Chinese woman can be seen speaking throughout most of the video to a circle of people gathered around. The video starts with a Malay man speaking about democracy, and how has a young man he has to “do what is right”.

In response to this, the woman says, “We need to be able to speak freely without being watched, without being intimidated. Without having someone coming and knocking at our door”.

“We have our constitutional rights. We are not North Korean. If you want to mix communism, then tell us that we’re mixed communism, modern communism”, she added.

To this, the man said, “We’re the only country with a walk-over. Even North Korea has elections”.

The crowd gathered broke into applause when the woman suggested that Singapore’s system of governance be given to any other country for them to “try it out”.

The man also added that he found mainstream media to be rather biased. He said that “journalists play an important role in maintaining the checks and balances” and that they should not be one-sided.

The video shared on Facebook garnered almost 900 reactions and 1,150 shares.

Many netizens who commented echoed similar sentiments as those who were speaking and people of other nationalities spoke up as well.
