Singapore — An 83-year-old mechanic uncle was spotted by a netizen at Blk 423 Pasir Ris Drive 6 Void Deck fixing and offering bicycle repair service to people to help cyclists and bikers around the area.

The post was shared on Singapore Park Connection Network (SGPCN) Cyclist’s Facebook Group on Tuesday (Nov 16) by a man named Morna Morna which easily gained interactions from netizens.

After the photos of the elderly man went viral, netizens quickly asked for his location and details to send their financial help and support for his kidney dialysis.

“Happen to pass by and saw an 83 years old bicycle mechanic uncle with more than 30 years experience repairing and service bikes at Pasir Ris void deck to pay for his monthly kidney dialysis. You will see him every day except Monday, Wednesday and Friday for his kidney dialysis,” the caption says.

The author replied to some of the comments who wanted to approach and help the elderly man. He also edited his caption and put the location of the 83-year-old mechanic uncle after the post went viral.

“Edited: my messenger is flooded with pm for location. Decided to post it here, postal code 510423,” he added at the end of his original caption.

Hours later, a man named Gabriel Lim shared the viral post and introduced himself as the grandson of the viral mechanic uncle. He also then clarified the situation about his grandfather as some people have gotten the wrong idea about the shared post.

“Hi everyone, this is Gabriel and I’m the grandson of the “Bicycle Uncle” that all of you have all been so concerned about. Firstly, thank you all for the concern and kindness that you have shown towards my grandfather. We are really thankful for all the love shown towards him and the family would like to take this opportunity to clarify the situation as some people have gotten the wrong idea about the whole situation,” he commented on his shared post on Facebook.

He stated that his grandfather does not need financial aid. According to Lim, he is a private patient and hospital bills are covered by his insurance plans and the remainder is picked up by the family members.

At the end of his comment, he urged the netizens to stop sharing the post and let his grandfather’s life return to normal since he won’t decline any job request resulting in exhausting himself.

The bicycle mechanic man has over 30 years of experience repairing and doing bicycle service for people. The mechanic uncle has always been at the void deck repairing bicycles.

Lim assured the netizens that their family is giving him the quality of life for his age. He is grateful and thankful for everyone who showed support and help for his grandfather.

The netizens thanked the grandson for clarifying the bicycle uncle’s situation which left them with a clear explanation and understanding.

The Facebook post which went viral has since been taken down. /TISG
