A wise man rightly said, ‘breakfast is the most important meal of the day’, and many places in Singapore take that seriously. Here are some of the best places for your morning meal in Singapore.

1. Wild Honey – For tripping around the world at breakfast time

A post shared by Wenhui Wang (@lovethekisses) on May 19, 2017 at 7:47am PDT

Wild Honey has the distinction of wanting to transform a simple daily activity like breakfast into a trip around the world. Travel the world on your plate – you could gorge on a meaty breakfast creatively named Boulevard St Michel or get a flavour of The City by ordering a bagel with smoked salmon called I Love NY.

There is also Scandinavian, Norwegian, Spanish, Tunisian, European, and Aussie fare that you can choose from for your culinary fantasy trips. Pancakes and waffles can have a Caribbean or a Canadian twist, while vegetarians get a taste of the Gallic amongst others. The sandwiches, salads, sides, cereals, and breads are all natives of another place; so go ahead and knock yourself out!

If you are a scrambled eggs fan, this will be the best S$11 you’ll ever spend. RONIN’s eggs on toast of the scrambled variety is delicious. So delicious that it actually has a fan following. Some hail this scrambled wonder as the best on the Little Red Dot.

Arbite is the answer when what you are looking for is a wholesome gourmet breakfast without the gourmet prices or the stuffy service of a super expensive place. Sounds unreal? Arbite’s breakfast, or ‘Early Bites’ menu, is available till 3pm on weekdays and 5pm on weekends and is easily one of the most satisfying meals that you can sink your teeth into.

Try the Arbite Breakfast – a spread of scrambled eggs, bacon, roasted chickpea, tomato and basil salad, pork Cumberland sausage, sautéed locally farmed mushrooms, toasted brioche, and pommes noisettes. Phew! There is also the Eggs Benedict, Smoked Salmon Pancakes, Duck and Eggs, and Pulled Pork Wrap to choose from. Every breakfast option promises the satisfaction of gastric joy as well as budgetary relief.

4. The Book Café – For when you are in the mood for home

Relaxed, quiet, and a little inaccessible, The Book Café is a laid back and book themed (obviously) place. Other than the all-day breakfast menu that we will come to in a bit, there is comfortable seating, friendly staff, electrical points, convenient street side parking, a selection of local and foreign reading material, and even a photocopier.

5. Chin Mee Chin Confectoinary – For the best local Singaporean breakfast

A post shared by @elissachan on Nov 11, 2016 at 8:39pm PST

Take a trip down nostalgia lane with a local breakfast at Chin Mee Chin Confectionary. Unassuming and small, CMC is old school, reasonable, and rustles up what can easily be described as the best kaya toast in Singapore.

Chin Mee Chin’s kaya toast comes as a slightly toasted bun instead of as a bread slice. It is slathered with a generous helping of kaya and a dollop of butter.

Combine that with a shot of traditional kopi and you’re set for the morning! Once at CMC, you must try out their retro styled custard cream puffs and egg tarts.

Where: 204, East Coast Road, Singapore 428903

Opening hours: 8:00am to 4:30pm, Sundays closed

How much: Approximately S$10 for one person

6. Murugan Idli Shop – For when you are in Indian mode

The day you wake up craving ‘Indian’, ‘vegetarian’ or simply ‘idli’, head to Little India and seat yourself at Murugan Idli Shop, if you can get a table, that is. Lunch and dinnertime is especially crowded, so breakfast is easily your best bet if you’d rather not wait.

Murugan is not a fancy place, but you can expect reasonably priced, good quality, and consistently delicious food. A typical South Indian eatery, you are served on pretty green banana leaf ‘plates’ that are decorated with Murugan’s famous chutneys.

Must have dishes at Murugan Idli Shop should include idli (duh!). For an authentic flavour experience, dunk your idli and mix it with the chutneys offered. The uttapam, masala dosa, tamarind rice, lemon rice, and tomato rice as well as the filter coffee are exceptionally good. And remember, ditch the cutlery and dig in with your hand!

Where: 81 Syed Alwi Road, (Little India) Singapore 207660

Opening hours: 9:00am to 11:00pm

How much: Approximately S$7 for one person.
