Wife had no choice but to cage her child in dessert cart while selling on streets because husband only plays video games all day instead of helping

A woman in China was left with no choice but to create a makeshift cage under her dessert cart for her child, so she could take him to work. She couldn’t leave the two-year-old at home, as her husband was too addicted to playing video games to watch over their child.

A YouTube video of the child in a cage is circulating online, sparking sympathy among netizens. The mother, named Ms Li, sells ice jelly to locals in Tongren City, Guizhou province.

She told Chinese media Jiu Pai News that she had to take care of her child for seven to eight hours a day; thus, she had to convert the extra space under her cart into a ‘cage’ with enough room for her son to play.

Ms Li admitted that she pitied the boy, but she had no other alternatives, as her unemployed husband would neglect their son when she left him at home. She noted that her husband would not feed him milk regularly.

Ms Li also works early in the morning at a nearby market selling sweet wine, reported 8World News. She would hurry back home in time for her son to wake up before bringing him with her to work.

Netizens responded to the video, noting the woman should not be criticised as she was doing her best to keep her child safe while at work.

“In China, child abduction can happen in broad daylight and usually, the victim targeted is weak and helpless,” explained Facebook user Ken Li.

“This again is tough love. Boh pian lor. She rather keeps the child in the ‘cage’ where she can see him and be comforted he is safe and sound. If she can get a caregiver, she wouldn’t do it. Am sure it pains her heart as well. Bottomline is she did this out of love for her ah boy,” said Facebook user CP Lee in a comment with over 210 likes. /TISG
