A Singapore-registered Honda Civic Type R stolen from Genting Highlands, Malaysia reportedly appeared about 300kms away in Selangor, with a new paint job, replaced car plate, and some parts missing.
Facebook community page SG Road Vigilante posted details of the theft, including a copy of the police report filed on July 17.
“Arrived at Genting Highlands, Malaysia, on July 15. The car was parked at SkyAvenue’s carpark. When I went to retrieve my car at the carpark on July 16 evening, I realized that my car was stolen from the parking lot,” wrote the owner on the police report.
“I have since lodged a police report at Malaysia’s police station, and CCTV footage showed the car being driven down from the Genting mountains on July 16 at 2 am.”
The owner, 28-year-old Damien Yeo, also appealed to the online community for any leads to the incident.
The car, which was said to be worth about S$220,000, was found in a condominium car park in Sepang, Selangor, on Tuesday (July 19).
Mr Yeo told The New Paper that the four men linked to the theft were arrested on July 20.
A security guard noticed the vehicle entering the condominium at around 6 am on the same day the car was reported stolen.
Since the vehicle resembled the stolen one, the security guard informed the police.
The thieves tried sticking racing stickers and swapping the car plate for a Malaysia-registered one to evade detection.
The Type R was also found without its 18-inch rims, sound system and car cameras.
The police have since confirmed that the car belonged to Mr Yeo. He will return to Malaysia on July 25 to retrieve the vehicle and determine the full extent of damages.
